Rebirth! Renew! Redesign!

Posted by on 5-05-18 in Blog | Comments Off on Rebirth! Renew! Redesign!

I often suggest a new life for old jewelry because sometimes it is better to make something out of what you already have than to have it sit in a drawer or a box.  I find that many people, including myself, have items that have great sentimental value but is not something that would be worn.  Whether it is an outdated style or something that is simply not what is one’s taste, it is set aside and only looked at rather than enjoyed the way it was meant to be.

I have taken apart many items, this anniversary band was created from diamonds from several different pieces.  The work shows not only elegance and minimalistic design, but of the setter’s expertise in putting together diamonds that are of various different sizes and slightly different shapes in a flawless manner.  This ring looks beautiful due to great craftsmanship.  It is easy for me to dream up a design, but sometimes it requires the help of a master diamond setter to bring my ideas to a successful fruition.

Golden Pumpkin

A friend of mine asked me to make a pumpkin.  He said, “Maybe the wife will hate it, who knows, but can you make me a pumpkin?”  So I drew up a design, made a wax and here is what I came up with…

Ribbon Bow Rings

Sometimes you look through your old things and you find all sorts of items that you forget you had!  Tying a bow on your finger was always an old school trick to make one remember something.  “Don’t Forget!”  Maybe that is what I should name these rings.  I have found in a box of things, these old rings that were made decades ago.  I hope putting one on your finger or on someone else’s finger will remind you or them of something that should never be forgotten.

An Engagement Ring in Emerald and Diamonds

I was contacted by a gorgeous girl named Naomi who was on a world tour in 2015. She would stop off in the United States and specifically New York City.

Naomi asked if I was interested in creating her engagement ring mounting for her. She wanted something substantial and reflects her style.

After some pictures and conversations, here is what I came up with…

A Birthday Present

Sometimes a birthday present is one that represents a person’s passion or love.

I was asked to make an eternity band of Amethyst (February’s birthstone) for a friend’s wife. The birthstone is of their son’s birth month.

I thought about how big to make it, and then decided it should be substantial. This ring was made with 4.5mm Round Cut, Natural Amethysts.

This exact ring in this size is $1,000.  Contact me for customization, smaller sizes reduce prices.

Sometimes you just want something new…

Sometimes you just want something new…

Making a new piece for an old friend. She had a couple of items she just didn’t like wearing anymore. I’d taken the pieces apart and used some diamonds here and there. She thought she deserved a nice Mother’s Day gift and quite frankly, so do I. So we decided on two pieces. Why not?  When you work hard and you make it possible for those in your life to live in a beautiful world, you deserve to be recognized for it.

Engagement for Men

Engagement for Men

I hear from men that they don’t get an engagement ring. Well, some men do. I have made a few in the past. Here is one that I made for a lovely woman that is getting engaged and her mom is, in turn, buying an engagement ring for the groom. That’s the tradition. It’s a very sweet one.

To Make a Dream Ring

To Make a Dream Ring

A friend recommended a sweet person to me. I describe this person because he wanted to ask his love to marry him by surprising her with a ring.

Over the course of three weeks, we discussed the diamond, the style and when he would like to make the deadline. As the days peeled off, we went from surprising her to “oh let’s just let her pick the ring.”

We busted the budget. I asked him if I should guide her to something different, he replied, “No. I’ll just work some more overtime. I want her to be happy and love the ring she gets.”

Here are pictures of the final stages of the ring:

Update Me!

Every now and then, you realize that your taste evolves and what you once found to be cool no longer fits your taste and style.

I made an engagement ring for a friend’s brother and his (now) wife liked my work so much she commissioned me to make something out of a ring she no longer wears.

I had such fun making them that I now offer the rings as an item I sell!

Engaged! Two month’s wait, but finally done!

Engaged! Two month’s wait, but finally done!

I was contacted by a friend of a friend who wanted to help a friend of another friend.  This could have been a Kevin Bacon game. I had a lot of fun with the friend of a friend of a friend of a friend.

Three of these friends came in and chose a ring that was originally a plain solitaire design.  We laughed, we joked, we looked at seven diamonds and decided on the nice cushion diamond that was so lovely, it nearly jumped out at you.  We decided what the time frame was that I had to complete the ring.  As we were about to say goodbye, the lovely groom to be asked if I could possibly do something else.  He said he loved the mathematical symbols I made and wondered if I could make a ring with infinity signs in it.

I said I would try and the result made him tear up.  That’s better than words.

Oh, I also finished the ring by the time frame he needed, but things got in the way and he didn’t get to plan the proposal until two months later.  The anticipation killed me but beyond that, I was the back up memory for where he hid the ring.  I was quite stressed that I may forget where it was hidden!

Naval Academy Accompaniment

A friend recommended someone who upholds American freedom in many ways.  A criminal defense lawyer who attended the Naval Academy, he stays active and his beautiful wife is fierce with a firearm.  This duo is an amazing couple in ways I am incapable of describing.  I had a great time making the rings he asked me to design and create.

First is an engagement ring which required  little bit of covert operations and then the wedding bands.  The beautiful bride never had a chance to decide what either would look like.  The groom and I designed both! (more…)

To create a design

To create a design

My friend’s sister is an older woman with dreams. She loves all sorts of funky and crazy things but could never bring herself to spend the money. One day, she sent me a picture of a pattern and asked if I could create something with it. I made her a ring with earrings to match. Some time later, she realized she simply could not wear the earrings as I’d designed them even though she really wanted the statement piece I created.  I took them apart and now she has a pair of earrings, a ring, a pendant, and a bangle bracelet!

Giving life to a memory of someone who has left us

Giving life to a memory of someone who has left us

I had a question posed to me about a pair of diamond studs that was left from a loved one who left us too soon.

A big wedding anniversary was coming up so my suggestion to the lovely man who was making this item for his mother that we should create a new memory with the old jewelry. Ruby is the 40th Anniversary gift.

I asked what kind of jewelry she wears everyday and decided that a necklace was what she should add to that everyday wear.

He and his father thought it was a great idea.

Off I went and the result was something not too fancy but substantial looking enough.
